Had tears in my eyes when I saw C47 Invasion Virgin hauling wounded. That was my dad's plane of the 74th troop carrier squadron. The crew was Carl Ohm, Gilbert Swanson,John Ramsey, Joe Southard and Burt Wiley. They saw action on D day, Operation Market Garden, resupplying at the Bulge and of course Operation Varsity

Cool video. It's neat to think that each one of those bombs may have saved an American soldier... The A-3 variant in the last scene was hooking up to launch with the top of the canopy open. Is that because they did not have ejection seats (hence the moniker, "All-3" dead)? Thanks for posting.

My Dad, then LCDR Vern Jumper, was the CAG2 LSO on the 1965 USS Midway combat cruise and flew over 100 missions in VF-21 F-4B Phantoms. In 2024 at 92 years young he is a Docent at the USS Midway Museum.

Awesome video! I rode in one of the double decker glass cars behind that locomotive some years back before I started on RUclips. We rode it from Rock Island, Illinois across the Government bridge into Davenport and then on west somewhere. We turned on a wye and returned later that day. It was a huge rail fest with other steam locomotives but I can't remember the year. This brings back those memories

That’s intriguing to me to see the different tow configurations. I started out in sailplanes and to see that cargo glider yanked into the air by a C-47 without any takeoff roll is amazing to me! Thanks for sharing this historical footage!!!

The pic showing the short tow of the glider was very nice. Did they takeoff that way or reeled in after takeoff?

That must have been some jerk for the troops in the gliders.
